Today I'm sharing the Pentax SP1000, which is very common in the M42 camera world. The version most commonly seen in Taiwan bears the Asahi Optical (旭光學 Asahi) branding, but this particular camera was exported to the U.S. and carries the Honeywell branding instead. The standard lens I paired with this camera is a later version of the SMC Pentax Takumar 55mm f1.8. Its image quality is above average, though personally, I find the Auto Chinon 55mm f1.7 MC to be slightly superior in comparison. Below are a few test photos taken with this setup. The film used was AGFA Vista Plus 400, which had been refrigerated and expired for 9 years and 4 months.

今天分享的是在M42相機領域很常見的 Pentax SP1000， 在台灣常見的版本是有旭光學 Asahi 標誌的相機，而這台相機卻是外銷美國，打上美國品牌 Honeywell 標誌的版本。我搭配在這台相機上的標準鏡頭是後期的 SMC Pentax Takumar 55mm f1.8，成像品質算是中上，個人覺得與 Auto Chnon 55mm f1.7 MC 相比，後者還是比較優，以下是幾張測試照片，底片是冷藏保存過期9年4個月的 AGFA vista plus 400。

Asahi Pentax Super Takumar 55mm f2


The NONS SL42 Mark II camera was born for this purpose. It has a Canon EOS EF mount adapter suitable for adapting traditional camera lenses. With various adapters available on the market, it can adapt M42, Nikon F, Contax/Yashic, and other types of traditional camera lenses. To solve the problem of the framing ring of 135 camera lenses not fully imaging on Instax Mini photos, the manufacturer provides a 1.8x magnifying glass. It can enlarge the 24mm x 36mm imaging of 135 film to 43.2mm x 64.8mm, approximately equivalent to the imaging size of Instax Mini photos at 46mm x 64mm.


NONS SL42 Mark II相機就是為了這個目的而生，她有個適合轉接傳統相機鏡頭的Canon EOS EF接環，透過市面上的轉接環，可以轉接M42、Nikon F、Contax/Yashic 等各式傳統相機鏡頭。為了解決135相機鏡頭的成項圈無法在Instax Mini相片上全幅成像的問題，原廠提供了一個1.8倍加倍鏡，可以將135底片成像24mm x 36mm 放大成 43.2mm x 64.8mm，約莫等於 Instax Mini 相片的成像 46mm x 64mm。

The usage of NONS SL42 is roughly equivalent to early non-metering SLR cameras operated with stopped-down aperture. After loading the Instax Mini film cartridge and pressing the electric film advance button to dispense the shading plastic sheet, you can start shooting. The camera itself also has a built-in reflective light meter (non-TTL). Simply select the shutter speed (1, 1/2, 1/4, ..., 1/125, 1/250 seconds), and the display window will show the appropriate aperture value.

Next: cock the shutter -> open the aperture for focusing -> select the shutter speed -> choose the aperture according to the recommended value on the light meter -> press the shutter button -> press the electric film advance button -> wait for the photo image to emerge. Once done, the display window will show the remaining number of photos in the camera.

Additionally, it's crucial to note that since the camera's fastest shutter speed is only 1/250 second, and the ISO value of Instax film is 800, it is recommended to use an ND4 or higher neutral density filter when shooting outdoors during the daytime.


NONS SL42 的使用方式，大概就等於早期無測光，並且以縮光圈操作的單眼相機。裝上Instax Mini 相片卡匣，按下電動出片鈕，吐出遮光塑膠片，就可開始拍攝了。相機本身也有內建一個反射式測光表(非TTL)，只要選定好快門速度(1、1/2、1/4、、、、1/125、1/250秒)，顯示窗會顯示適合的光圈值。

接下來 快門上弦 -> 光圈全開對焦 -> 選定快門速度 -> 依測光表建議值選定光圈 -> 按下快門 -> 按下電動出片鈕 -> 等待相片影像浮出 就完成了，顯示窗會顯示相機內剩餘的相片數量。


另外，很重要的一點，因為相機最快的快門速度只有1/250秒，而Instax底片的ISO值是800，一般戶外白天拍攝時，建議搭配ND4以上的減光鏡使用喔。

For people in Taipei, there are many ways to get close to nature. Yangmingshan is a good choice. If you only have one or two hours, the Botanical Garden in the city is also a place worth visiting and taking photos. Other places, such as Tamsui and Wulai, and farther away, such as the northern coast, the North Cross-Island Highway, or Yilan, are all places I like.

I have collected some photography works related to humanities and art, such as historical buildings, public facilities, and sculptures, in this group. My personal preference is Taiwanese old buildings, including temples, Minnan-style buildings, and Baroque buildings from the Japanese colonial era.

Life

It is not difficult to take pictures of various birds or medium-sized animals in the city. As long as you stay in the zoo for half a day, you can enjoy penguins in the polar regions and zebras on the grasslands. In Taipei, I like to visit the Taipei Zoo regularly. I like to take pictures of animals' movements. It feels like a series of stage performances, with surprises and warmth.

自然

對台北人而言，親近大自然有很多方法，陽明山應該是不錯的選擇。
如果只有一、兩個小時，市區的植物園也是一處值得賞玩與拍照的地方。
其他地方，如淡水與烏來，遠一點如北部濱海、北橫沿線、或宜蘭都是我喜歡的地方。

感覺上就像是一幕幕上演的舞台劇，有驚奇也有溫馨。

In the fall of 1992, I was accepted to the UCSD graduate program, beginning my one-and-a-half-year academic career in San Diego. My Konica RF camera, which I had inherited from my father, was no longer sufficient, so I purchased my first SLR camera, a Pentax K1000, with the recommendation of my English teaching assistant. After six months of research, I upgraded to a Pentax Z1 camera and switched from Kodak Gold film to Kodak Elite color negative film. My photography subjects also began to move beyond simple souvenir photos.

San Diego has a Mediterranean climate and abundant sunshine, making it a popular vacation destination. From north to south, the city's famous attractions include UCSD, La Jolla Beach, Sea World, Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, Downtown, and Coronado Island. The U.S.-Mexico border is located further south.

92年秋天申請到UCSD的碩士班，開始了我聖地牙哥一年半的求學生涯。由於從父親手中所帶來的Konica RF相機已經不敷使用，在英文助教的介紹下購入了我的第一台單眼相機Pentax K1000。 經過了半年的鑽研，相機進步到了Pentax Z1，底片也從柯達金軟片換成了柯達Elite正片，攝影主題也正式跳脫了單純的紀念照模式。

聖地牙哥屬地中海型氣候，和徐的陽光讓她成為度假勝地。著名的景點從北到南有UCSD、Ja Jolla Beach、Sea World、Babola、San Diego Zoo、Downtown與Coronado半島等，再往南就是美墨邊境了。
